-
Inspect all window and door screens and repair or replace any damaged area.
-
Seal or caulk any openings around windows, doors, or siding that may be easy access for pests
-
Repair any conditions that lead to water leaks or standing water. Standing water can be a breeding area for mosquitoes.
-
Keep gutters free of debris. In addition to being an ideal breeding site for many types of pests when wet, clogged gutters can contribute to standing water on the ground, leaking basements, and if the wood around the gutters stays moist can contribute to decay and a variety of pests.
-
Keep trees and shrubs trimmed back from the house. These conditions can lead to easy pest entry into the home.
-
Do not store firewood directly against the house. The wood will sustain termites should they find it and if it is directly against the house, you may not notice termite shelter tubes going up the foundation and into the house.
-
Exterior lights can attract flying insects. Use only when needed.
-
Inspect the exterior of the house for small openings that pests could enter. The hole where the A/C line or plumbing enters the house, the dryer vent, and around the chimney, soffits, and vents could also lead to squirrel, rodent, or bird entry.
-
Keep mulch, soil, and rock below the siding line. This will help prevent termites.
