Subterranean Termite Treatment

(Click here for general information about Termite Biology)

Step 1: Address Conditions Conducive to Termite Infestation

The first step in obtaining long-lasting control of termites is to take steps to eliminate conducive conditions wherever possible. These steps may include any or all of the following:

  • Correcting excessive moisture conditions. This includes things like fixing leaky downspouts, proper landscaping to guide water away from the structure, and filling in depressions in the soil to encourage proper drainage.

  • Correcting poor ventilation conditions in crawl spaces.

  • Removing cellulose-containing debris (such as logs, tree stumps, or form boards left over from when the foundation was poured) from around the perimeter of the house.

  • Eliminating wood-to-soil contact wherever possible.

At Buckingham Pest Control, we have the experience and know-how to help you identify and solve these and other conditions conducive to termite infestation, and thus maximize the effectiveness of treatment.

Step 2: Treatment with Termidor®

Our preferred treatment for most termite problems is Termidor® Unlike old-fashioned, repellant termiticides, Termidor® is invisible to termites. They can't see it, smell it, or feel it.

Buckingham Pest Control's technicians are Termidor® Certified Professionals. That means that they have undergone specialized training -- over and above what the State requires -- in the proper and effective use of this revolutionary new product. So when you choose Buckingham to treat your home for termites, you can rest assured that the job will be done right.

How Does Termidor® Work?

Unlike old-fashioned termiticides, termites can't see, feel, or smell Termidor®; so they wander freely through treated areas. Because of Termidor's® delayed action, they don't die immediately on contact. Instead, they "pick up" the product on their bodies and carry it around with them as they go about their business.

Termites are highly social insects with a well-defined division of labor. Termites belonging to the same colony are constantly grooming, feeding, and communicating with each other. In the course of this close contact, termites who have come in contact with Termidor® spread it to other termites through a process known as trophyllaxis.

That's why Termidor® is effective in controlling even those termites who never directly contact treated areas. The termites themselves carry Termidor® deep into the heart of the colony, ultimately resulting in the entire colony being eliminated.

Other Advantages to Termidor®:

  • Termidor® has been very successful both in experimental testing and in real-world use. USDA ground-board testing has shown Termidor to be 100 per cent effective a controlling termites, at every application, and at every single test location, for more than eight years.

  • Because Termidor® works at very low concentrations and requires very little active ingredient, it is considered more environmentally friendly than older, more toxic termiticides.

  • Termites themselves distribute Termidor® throughout their colonies; therefore, an uninterrupted "chemical barrier" is not always necessary. This can help in cases where treating some areas with older termiticides might involve, for example, tearing up or drilling through an antique hardwood floor.
